Your Life Is a Mysterious Journey, Not A Final Destination

Brazilian author Paulo Coelho in his most famous book “The Alchemist”, tells the fanciful story of an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago. Santiago dreams of traveling the world in search of a worldly treasure. Throughout his travels, Santiago’s assumptions are regularly put to the test, but his determination and braveness win out. But as a result of the challenges he faced, by the end of this magical and inspirational fable Santiago realizes that the real gift in life “lies where your heart belongs.” Santiago’s resolve enables him to understand that the true fortune was the journey itself, jointly with all the knowledge he acquires and the discoveries he makes along the way.

Find Your Purpose

The analogy in our lives, is that we are on a personal journey as well in search for our own treasures. But we too frequently get sidetracked by the glitz and glamour of material treasures. We fill ourselves up with things in order to comfort ourselves, live up to an idealized image, or try to fit in. We tend to overlook the true treasures in our lives – our physical health, principles, achievements, disappointments, challenges, discipline, balance, fulfillment. The real treasures are those things that we discover through introspection and life’s experience, not those we take from a shelf at Best Buy or purchase on eBay. Take a moment to reflect on all the astounding insights you would miss if you passed through life without taking time to recognize the potential gifts your life’s experience grants you. If you run through life with only an outcome in mind, you risk missing or obscuring the palpable treasures along the way. Just like windshield wipers madly wipe away the rain, it is not uncommon for people to recklessly cast aside emotions they consider negative, painful or undesirable. When a person ignores certain events that happen in their life, they miss out on the opportunity to learn from them. Some of the most disappointing experiences turn out to carry the most valuable lessons in life. If one has the courage and faith to keep an open mind one can understand that you don’t always know where your journey will take you.

When there is no set path for you to follow it takes guts, resolve, conviction and discipline to take the road less traveled. On that journey, immense gifts are created and revealed. These are the gifts your true fortune is made of. Your challenge is to recognize the gifts you have been blessed with, and figure out a way to develop those gifts and invite personal fulfillment and satisfaction into your life. Consider professional coaching for preparing to rise to the occasion of your life’s journey.

First identify those things in life that you truly treasure. The things that will inspire you to move forward and find your own path.
Then identify the things that you need to leave behind in order to fully experience the journey. The things that keep you in your comfort zone that are safe and familiar.

Consider what will you have to say no to in order to say yes to your personal growth and development? The things you cherish that you are willing to give up in order to move from good to great.

You can only find the treasure within yourself if you are geared up to take the journey. Pursue this quest in every aspect of your life. Discover the hidden treasure that is already within you.

Only by fully experiencing the journey will you discover the path to your hidden treasure and ultimately your genuine personal success. Have faith that riches beyond your wildest imagination are within your grasp. All it takes to access them is an open mind, a willing spirit, and a sense of adventure. Enjoy the road less traveled!
